Major Road Improvements at the Townside Area - Poole

Major Road Improvements at the Townside Area - Poole commencing Monday 8 October 2018 until July 2019.

The area between Hunger Hill and Poole Bridge, including West Street and West Quay Road involves the reconfiguration of the Hunger Hill junction to improve its efficiency.

:The direction of traffic on West Street (towards the bridges only) and West Quay Road (towards Hunger Hill only) will also change on Sunday 20 January 2019 to a new road layout and new one-way system on West Quay Road and West Street.

Three-way temporary traffic lights will be installed at the junction of West Street and New Orchard (by the Queen Mary pub) to enable Siemens to carry out preparatory signalling works. These three-way signals will be operational from Monday 14 January until Sunday 20 January.

Lane closures are in place on the Holes Bay Road approach to Hunger Hill. These are to allow installation of some signal pole bases and unfortunately this work can only be completed with a lane closure which will be in place until Sunday 20 January.

Prior to the main works starting, two bans on turns will be in place from 3 October to enable preparatory works on the Hunger Hill roundabout to be carried out. These are:

•    A left hand turn ban for all vehicles from Hunger Hill roundabout to West Quay Road.
•    A right hand turn ban for all vehicles from Hunger Hill roundabout to Towngate Bridge.

It is anticipated the main works will take around nine months to complete. During this time works will be carried out on one arm of the junction at a time. Motorists are advised to plan ahead as major disruption is likely.

The majority of traffic lanes will remain open during peak hours with no full road closures taking place on the main routes.

Please expect some delays and allow extra time for your journeys in this area.
