Weekend Parking - Ouistreham

In order to comply with the requirements of the International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code, all port authorities have been obliged to review measures relating to the parking of freight vehicles on their land.

As you are aware, a consequence of this has been that since June 1st 2007 the port of Ouistreham (Caen) has prohibited parking on the freight terminal from 09.00 hours on Fridays until 22.00 hours on the following Sunday (with the exception of those vehicles carrying non-perishable loads that embark after 22.00 hours on the Saturday).

We would now like to advise you that with effect February 1st 2008, no vehicle will be permitted to remain on the Ouistreham terminal between Friday 09.00 and Sunday 22.00.

However, in response to representations made by Brittany Ferries, a special dispensation from the general weekend driving ban has been agreed by the Calvados Préfecture, which will allow hauliers to move to the Mondeville Truckstop, situated some 15km from the ferry terminal. Drivers will have access to a parking area and on Saturdays only, facilities such as refreshments, showers, etc are available.

Hours of operation are:

Saturday: 17.00 - 24.00

Sunday: 10.00 - 22.30

We would be grateful if you could ensure that all your drivers are made aware of these new regulations, a copy of which can be made available to you if you so wish (you might like to provide your drivers with a copy that they can keep in their cab).

You might also appreciate a reminder that the Cherbourg port authorities have decided, following their own review, that there are is no reason at present for them to introduce any prohibition on weekend parking in their own terminal area.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us for further information and/or assistance.
