Brittany Ferries to double Freight-Only Service to Spain from October 2009
Brittany Ferries has announced that sailings on its freight-only Poole/Santander service will be doubled to two round-trips per week, with effect from October 2009. In addition to its current weekend schedule, Cotentin will offer a mid-week departure, leaving Poole on a Tuesday morning and returning from Santander on a Wednesday afternoon.
The original concept behind the introduction of this freight-only route to Spain was to provide a regular and reliable alternative to driving through France for the road haulage industry. The associate benefit of providing a full twenty-four hour rest period for the driver in modern and peaceful surroundings has clearly contributed to its success. The service also fully complies with the requirements of the Marco Polo initiative in the modal shift of millions of ton-miles off French roads.
Along with its current services into Portsmouth and Plymouth, Brittany Ferries Freight offers greater capacity and more regular services than any other operator for the transport of freight between the south coast of England and northern Spain. This latest sailing of the Cotentin is designed to suit mid-week exports from the UK and perfectly timed to arrive back late on Thursday afternoon in Poole, for the all-important deliveries for the weekend market of produce from the Iberian peninsula.
