Animal care

Transport of live animals:

Brittany Ferries have for many years specialised in the transport of live animals and it is our priority to respect the welfare of these animals at all times, this in accordance with EC Regulation 1/2005 regarding the protection of animals during transport and any applicable national legislation.

For the transport of all live animals:

All carriers (professional or private) must comply with the above regulations, possess all documents required by the competent authorities and also acknowledge that they have taken note of the following conditions:

· Brittany Ferries will not provide an on-board electrical connection for ventilation.

· Brittany Ferries cannot guarantee enough space to lower the ramps or doors of vehicles.

· The parking of vehicles near the garage ventilation of the ship is limited. Other/additional vehicles will therefore be positioned adjacent to each other.

· Live animals must be healthy and fit for transport by sea.

· The ship's Captain may at any time decide to refuse the boarding of live animals.

· A "journey plan" must be completed for transport of live animals (except equidae)

For the transport of equidae. The above conditions also apply and a declaration will be required beforehand in agreement of the following:

Professional carriers now guarantee that all vehicles and drivers are certified in accordance with EC Regulation 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and any applicable national legislation. They must hold the following documents:

· Certification for long journeys

· Certification for drivers / accompanying drivers

· Certification that vehicles and trailers are 'fit for purpose' and equipped with ventilation

Individuals transporting equidae in a private capacity must declare for all travel requests that they comply with EC Regulation 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and any applicable national legislation.

Please note that restrictions on the acceptance of live animals apply to certain routes and advance notice of intention to carry live animals is required.
